Pilau is a fragrant,traditional rice dish made with many aromatic spices that add lots of flavour to the rice dish.Chicken and beef can be used to make pilau.It's a festive dish served during weddings, birthday parties,Eid celebrations and even Christmas.
This is my ultimate go-to comfort meal.You know those days when food is running low for both you and your picky cat and meat and rice are the only things available? Well,this quick and easy pilau recipe tends to be the only thing on my mind.It has quickly become a family favourite and the fact that you can whip this up in just a couple of minutes is a plus.
Why goat meat?Growing up people around me always said goat meat tastes different compared to beef and let me tell you Maina ,it does and this paired with a few spices takes plain rice from ordinary to extra-ordinary pilau.Gather your ingredients and dive right in!
2 cups Basmati rice
4 cups water/vegetable stock/beef broth
2 Tbs cooking oil
1/2 kg goat meat
1 tomato diced
1 large red onion diced
2 Tbs minced garlic and ginger paste
1 Tbs soy sauce(optional)
1 Tbs pilau masala
1 tsp cumin powder
1 tsp paprika
2 beef cubes
1/2 tsp white pepper(optional)
HOW TO:
In a pan add vegetable oil and onions and fry till translucent.
Add in your goat meat and fry till tender.
To the tender goat meat, add soy sauce,paprika,garlic and ginger paste,cumin powder,pilau masala,diced tomato,white pepper and beef cubes.
Simmer for 5 minutes then add water and bring to a boil.
Finally, add your already washed rice and let cook for 7-9 minutes.
Serve hot alongside fried cabbage and kachumbari.
NOTE:
-The brown colour in pilau is brought about by browning the meat before adding your rice.Soy sauce just adds onto the already present brown colour.
