EASY BEEF TACOS WITH MORNAY SAUCE

If you're looking for a quick meal that is full of flavour to make on a weeknight then these tacos are it!With just a few ingredients and the star of the show the ground beef ofcourse, you have yourself dinner..YUM😍

Tacos are a traditional mexican dish that are made of a corn/wheat based tortilla/shell that is topped up with filling. The filling includes and is not limited to:beef, chicken, fish and beans.Tacos are often garnished with salsa/kachumbari,Guac,lettuce,diced tomatoes and onions and my personal favorite mornay sauce.I love me some meat so I went with ground beef and the fact that it absorbs flavour so easily was just a plus.

I wouldn't want to call this authentic because this was my own spin of the classic recipe. The tacos were ready in under 30 minutes.I would say the most time consuming part was making the shells so if you want to skip that part go ahead and get some tortillas from the store but homemade ones are where its at.

INGREDIENTS:

TACO SHELLS

~1 cup All purpose flour

~1/2 cup maize flour

~Pinch of salt

~1 tsp sugar

~2 Tbs cooking oil

~1/2 cup warm water

GROUND BEEF

~1/2 Kg ground beef

~1 large onion

~2 large ripe tomatoes blended/diced

~chopped dhania

~1 Tbs minced garlic and ginger paste

~2 Tbs cooking oil

~2 beef cubes

~1 tsp Black pepper

~salt to taste

MORNAY SAUCE

~1 tsp minced garlic

~1 Tbs butter/cooking oil

~1 heaped Tbs All purpose flour

~1 cup milk

~1 tsp black pepper

~1/2 tsp salt

~1/2 cup shredded cheese

HOW TO:

TACO SHELLS

  • In a bowl add in the all purpose flour, maize flour, salt sugar and cooking oil.

  • Whisk till everything is well combined then gradually add in the warm water till a soft dough is formed.

  • Roll out the dough and make tiny balls of dough from it.Cover these with a damp kitchen towel to prevent them from drying out.

  • Roll each individual ball of dough into a circle and on a hot oiled pan cook both sides of the shell till brown patches are formed.(Oil the pan just this once.)

  • Ensure the shells are placed in an airtight container or covered in a towel to keep them warm and soft.

NOTE:ENSURING THE SHELLS ARE SOFT WILL MAKE ASSEMBLING EASY AND WILL ALSO ENSURE THEY ARE PLIABLE.

GROUND BEEF

  • In a pan with hot oil,add in the onions and cook until translucent.

  • Add in the ginger and garlic paste and cook until fragrant.

  • Add the ground beef and let cook for 7 minutes then add the tomatoes/tomato paste and let cook for a further 3 minutes.

  • Season the beef with the cubes, salt and pepper then lastly add in the chopped dhania.

NOTE:DO NOT LET THE GROUND BEEF COMPLETELY DRY OUT AND IT SHOULD NOT HAVE THAT MUCH SOUP IN IT AS WELL.

MORNAY SAUCE

  • In the same pan used to cook the ground beef, add the butter/cooking oil and minced garlic and cook until fragrant.(WE USE THE SAME PAN TO ENHANCE THE FLAVOUR OF THE SAUCE.)

  • Add in the flour and under low heat whisk till a light-coloured roux is formed.

  • Gradually add in the milk and keep whisking till the sauce is smooth and no lumps can be seen.

  • Adjust the sauce to your desired thickness by adding more milk.

  • Season the sauce with the salt and pepper and finally add in the shredded cheese.

NOTE:USE ANY MELTING CHEESE.
